The Don Walker Memorial Scholarship committee has received inquiries about how someone outside the committee can hold an event to raise money for the fund. The scholarship committee, which has representatives from the Walker family, Milwaukee Newspaper Guild, Milwaukee Press Club and Milwaukee Press Club Endowment, welcomes your interest.

We’ll leave it up to you to organize the event, but committee members can help with the effort in several other ways:

  1. We can include the event on our website and Facebook page.
  2. We can assist in the drafting of a news release to local media.
  3. We can send an email to our prior donors with a link to event information on our website or a link to a separate Facebook event that has been created.
  4. Questions? Reach out to us through our contact page and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

A reminder: Anyone wishing to plan a fundraiser must pay for the upfront costs. The scholarship committee cannot cover start-up costs associated with planning an event. If, for example,  you wanted to host a dinner benefit, the scholarship committee cannot give you money to be paid back once the event is over.
