MILWAUKEE BUCKS DEDICATE NEW MEDIA ROOM
Oct. 12, 2018 — The Milwaukee Bucks dedicated the Fiserv Forum’s new media room in honor of Don Walker on Oct. 12, 2018.
Walker was aggressively covering the development of the $524 million arena at the time of his death in May 2015. The arena opened in August 2018.
Bucks President Peter Feigin saluted Walker’s professionalism and fairness during the ceremony, according to a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel report.
“We owe Don and his family a debt of gratitude that can never be expressed,” Feigin said.
Walker’s family, friends and fellow journalists attended the event, as well. The media room includes a memorial to Don and his work with The Milwaukee Journal and Journal Sentinel.
The dedication comes soon after the scholarship’s third recipient was announced. Cassandra Danielle Bretl, a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, will receive $1,000 each semester from the scholarship.
This scholarship honors the legacy of Donald L. Walker, an alumnus of Marquette University and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He was an editor and reporter for the Milwaukee Journal and Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and a founding member of the Milwaukee Newspaper Guild.
Over nearly four decades, Walker covered the issues and events of Milwaukee and beyond with integrity, fairness, wit and compassion. He was a consummate professional who balanced his life with his family, friends, sports, literature and music.
The Don Walker Memorial Scholarship is administered through the MPC Endowment, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation affiliated with the Milwaukee Press Club. The scholarship greatly appreciates the support of its leadership sponsors, including the Milwaukee Newspaper Guild and the Milwaukee Press Club.
